The New Geico Money-With-Eyes Ads Have Crossed From 'Ignorable' To 'Pretty Annoying'

Geico insurance has been tremendously successful in the past with their offbeat advertising campaigns — I'm basing 'success' on 'me having heard of them' and 'number of sitcoms they've inspired' — but their most recent attempt to be bizarre and wacky is less harmlessly whimsical than it is just plain annoying, particularly when the ads play twice per commercial break per NFL game.

Below is one of a series of ads that have been running for a couple weeks featuring a small pile of money with googly eyeballs that follows non-Geico customers around. Prepare to be… something:




Their 2010 campaign is just going to be the word 'Geico' overtop this.

Thoughts on the new Geico ads, people? I realize I may be playing into their hands by making a big deal out of something even I don't care much about, but I'm sure some of us are on the same page here, right?
