ABC moves the island: 'Lost' sets return date, shifts to Tuesdays

75 days.

That's how long we have to wait until the final season of "Lost" commences. ABC announced Thursday that the sixth and last season of the drama will arrive Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 9 p.m. Eastern.

Big news: "Lost" will be airing on a new night!

Yes, ABC moved the island. "Lost" has time-traveled from its longtime Wednesday home to Tuesday. It seems appropriate for a show that has played around so much with time that it should vanish from its regular haunt and reappear on a different day.

And to debut the final season on Groundhog Day, no less (as a "Lost" fan on Twitter pointed out)? That's just wonderfully inspired. I'm so looking forward to this final season, as you can probably tell. But there are some other feelings mixed in with the glee: It's the final set of episodes of a show that has inspired so much conversation and connection and that has provided so many amazing moments and episodes. The end of "Lost" will truly feel like the end of an era.

It took my brain a few minutes to absorb the news about the switch to Tuesday, but I think it's actually a good move. Tuesdays aren't necessarily chockablock with must-see fare, in my opinion. And rather than mess with its Wednesday comedy block, which seems to be working well, ABC decided to move "Lost" to Tuesdays.

Just to add to the general excitement, executive producer Carlton Cuse tweeted some interesting information about the final season here. Please note that some might consider this information spoilery, so proceed with caution. (Along those lines, if you read the ABC press release below, be aware that mentions a couple of actors who have been seen on the show previously and who have been made series regulars for Season 6.)

A note about spoilers, as long as we're on the topic. I'm going to try extra, extra hard not to put spoilers out there on this site or via Twitter. I may link to information that contains spoilers, but I will try to mark it as well as I can.

My policy is: Those who want to stay completely spoiler-free for the last season should have that right. As much as is humanly possible, I'll try to accommodate the desires of those who are attempting to stay spoiler-free.

Because I'm one of them. As was the case with the final 10 episodes of "Battlestar Galactica," I'm going to try very hard to remain spoiler-free myself. I may post video clips in the player on this site, but I won't be posting episode summaries or casting information (or if I do break down and post news like that, again, I'll try to mark that material well for those who really don't want to know).

What are your thoughts about spoilers? I had a little fun with the poll below, but I honestly do want your feedback on this topic, as it applies to "Lost's" final season. Take the poll or leave your comments below.
