Madonna Makes Malawian Lawyers Rich, Gets Mercy Sunday
-
UK Sun story confirmed today.
Madonna has won her appeal to adopt little Mercy James from Malawi and couldn't be more thrilled about the news.
During a 90-minute hearing, Malawi's Supreme Court of Appeals decided it would be in her favor to let someone who is as financially stable as Madonna adopt her from the orphanage. Well duh.
The southern African state's chief justice Lovemore Munlo said: “In our view, Chifundo James would be better taken care of if she was adopted by foreign parents who will give her love and affection. We therefore grant the adoption.”
"It's the wee hours of morning in New York, but she is excited at the news," Madonna's lawyer Alan Chinula told the Associated Press. "As her lawyer, I am happy that this has settled this contentious issue."
Mercy is in the process of getting a passport so she can join her new family in New York. Mom and daughter are expected to reunite by Wednesday. Congrats to Madonna, she's already proven herself as a mother to her other kids so Mercy James is certainly one lucky little girl!

Two have already submitted reports recommending it go ahead and the third is said to be "in complete unison with them".
Madonna, 50, whose two-year application to adopt the three-year-old was blocked by a court in March, has been told the news by her lawyer Alan Chinula.
The ruling is set to be announced next Sunday at Malawi's Supreme Court of Appeal.
A source there said yesterday: "The paperwork is being typed up now.
"All recommendations are in favour of the adoption taking place. Mercy should start packing her bags. She's off to America."
A close friend of Madonna said: "She's ecstatic.
"She made a promise that she wouldn't give up on Mercy and, believe me, she could move mountains when she's this determined."
Madonna's adoption application was originally rejected because she had not lived in the east African state for 18 months, as required.
But one of the three appeal judges has said that rule was out of date.
The pal added: "No stone has been left unturned to prove that ruling was wrong."
