Many observers believe David Cook is the stone-cold, lead-pipe, sure-thing, take-it-to-the-bank, odds-on favorite to win "American Idol" next week. M.J. is convinced that David Archuleta doesn't stand a chance to stop the David C steamroller. M.J.'s exact words describing David C's chances of winning it all next week: In the bag. Moments after Syesha Mercado was eliminated last night, Internet gambling sites posted their odds. For entertainment purposes only, we'll let you know one site had David C as a -270 favorite and David A as a +212 underdog. In English, that means you'd have to wager 270 matchsticks on David C to profit 100. Conversely, a 100-matchstick stake on David A would net you 212. "He [Cook] is the favorite, but I don't feel comfortable saying he's going to win," said Maria Milito, a DJ on classic rock 104.3 FM and dedicated "Idol" watcher. "I don't trust America." Syesha was total class last night in accepting defeat. No anger. No tears. She flashed that million-dollar smile of hers and thanked fans for the great "Idol" ride. Syesha was far from the best singer of this competition. But we'll argue she was this season's most polished performer. Memo to all Broadway producers: Hire this young lady now, if not yesterday. Clay Aiken and Jennifer Hudson showed us you don't need to win "Idol" to have a mad, huge career. Another Broadway "Idol" sensation, Season 3 winner Fantasia Barrino, performed for us last night to mixed reviews. Her pink-haired, high-energy performance drew the most hilarious moment of last night: A quick live-camera shot of Simon, with his jaw ajar in apparent stunned, horrified disgust.
