Some cool casting news came over the transom tonight -- just as I'm trying to go on vacation for a few days, hello! I'm trying to get out the door soon (packing would be helpful at this point), but I had to share this: Timothy Olyphant, best known as Sheriff Seth Bullock on "Deadwood," has joined the cast of FX's "Damages," which arrives in early 2009. He joins William Hurt, who will play a friend and client of Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) in Season 2. "Olyphant's character will become tangled in the life of Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne) as she deals with both her recent personal loss and the escalating conflict with her boss Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) when the firm takes a new client (William Hurt)," according to FX's Wednesday press release. In other news, the starlet-tabloid-magnet takeover of TV continues, with Nicole Richie signing on to do a guest spot on NBC's "Chuck" this fall. She'll play the high school nemesis of Special Agent Sarah Walker. That sounds a lot like the role that Lindsay Lohan will be playing on "Ugly Betty" next season. All I can say is, well, at least it's not Paris Hilton. "Chuck" will also have football player Michael Strahan as a guest star, according to this Newark Star-Ledger story. I reiterate: At least it's not Paris Hilton. Both press releases are below.
