I've been reading Evan Wright's book "Generation Kill" and watching the HBO miniseries of the same name in recent days; both chronicle the experiences of a group of elite young Marines in the opening days of the Iraq war. Next week I'll post some thoughts on the HBO project, which debuts July 13 and which is David Simon's first project since wrapping up "The Wire." For now, here are some clips that will give you the flavor of the 7-hour miniseries. The fun part for "Wire" fans will be spotting a few veterans of that show in "Generation Kill" (James Ransone, Ziggy from Season 2 of "The Wire," has a prominent part in "Generation Kill," and I thought I spotted at least one other "Wire" alum). Lee Tergesen, who plays the Rolling Stone reporter embedded with the Marines, was in another HBO series, "Oz."
