On Wednesday, "Project Runway's" fifth season begins. And guess what I have to say about that? Nothing. Because Bravo hasn't sent out the DVD screener of the season premiere.
Normally critics would have gotten that screener weeks ago. But this year, we're not getting an advance peek at the first episode.
Why? A representative for the network said it was part of an effort to "protect the secrecy" of the fifth season (maybe the designers are finally solving the problem of cold fusion. Or curing the common cold. Perhaps they're locked in a lab creating the perfect little black dress. We can only hope, right?). Even more strange: We won't even be finding out who the Season 5 contestants are until Monday -- two days before the season premiere. Normally Bravo clues us in about the contestants a couple of weeks or so before the season begins. This season? Nada. And as of this writing, there are no promotional photos for Season 5 on Bravo's press Web site -- and again, it's less than a week before the season begins. (The photo here of Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum is from last year.) Blogging Project Runway, the go-to source of information about the show, called the upcoming designer competition the "most underhyped season ... ever." Well, hmmm. Anyone addicted to conspiracy theories and melodrama (hello, fellow "Project Runway" fans!) might start to wonder if shenanigans are afoot. After all, this is "Project Runway's" last season on Bravo -- soon the sewing machines and weepy contestants will be the property of Lifetime (quelle crise!). Lawyers have been lawyering away at this entertainment industry smackdown since it
