Below is an interview with Jon Hamm, who plays Don Draper on "Mad Men," which returns to AMC July 27. (A reminder: A "Mad Men" marathon of all 13 episodes of Season 1 airs July 20 on AMC, starting at 11 a.m. Central Time.)

Don Draper is the man who has it all - a beautiful family, a big house, a prestigious job in the ad business and all the highballs he can handle (and that's a lot). But does he really have anything? Hamm and I discussed Draper's restless search for something approaching contentment.

Something in Don, from his past, is so broken in so many ways that he's got to do a lot of the work to fix that before he can truly move forward and find real happiness that is not ephemeral and meaningless,' Hamm said.

As for Season 2, which is set about 15 months after Season 1, Hamm said, We have moved forward in time but our people are still our people and they're still in the situations that they're in. Everyone's kind of made a big deal about, 'Oh, it's moved forward so much,' but it really hasn't. It's not like we've come back and we're in 'Swingtown.'' An edited and slightly condensed transcript of the entire interview is below.

By the way, for an interview with Mad Men' creator Matthew Weiner, go here. My thoughts on re-watching Season 1 on DVD are here. Photos from Season 2 are here and here
