As far as Private Practice' goes, that show is going to focus more on medicine.
This season we're honing in on really making it a show that the stories tell more of the ethical dilemmas that our doctors have to face,' creator Shonda Rhimes said. There is surgery in it because Addison is a surgeon, and she gets back to doing that.'
I think when it just became kind of a soap opera about those people's lives, there was a lot of talking, a lot of time in the coffee room taking about the angst, that's not that show,' ABC president Stephen McPherson said in a Wednesday executive session.
At the end of last season, the doctors in Addison Montgomery's practice found out that the business' finances are not in great shape, and that will change the show too, McPherson said.
I think one of the things that we all felt was that it didn't feel like a real business. Didn't feel like there were real stakes, like a hospital, and they really do have to get back to doing surgery. They really do have to worry about the reality of healthcare and actually helping people, saving people as opposed to kind of just being this eco-friendly, nice place to be,' McPherson said.
