At the Desperate Housewives' panel, Marc Cherry stated definitively that his show would end after seven years, and he would be at the helm til the end. The idea of letting anyone else take the show from me kind of makes me sad and sick to my stomach. I would rather just -- it's my thing, and I'm going to take it through seven years. And, you know, I think we're going to get out while people still like us.' He also talked about why he launched the show five years into the future. You know, the soap tends to build up and, you know, I wanted to get back to where we were that very first season where it's just the problems of some ordinary women and they were small and relatable.' He also said, during the Showrunners Panel, that he was influenced by Lost's' successful time jump.
