The big news from the TCA's Monday executive session with NBC co-chairs Ben Silverman and Marc Graboff:
There are two projects in development from The Office's' executive producer Greg Daniels and Office' writer Mike Schur.
Daniels and Schur are working on a comedy starring Amy Poehler, and that probably won't premiere until about March 2009. That comedy will not be in any way a spinoff of The Office,' but it will be stylistically infomed' by the sensibilities of the Office.' But it's not set up to emanate directly from 'The Office,'' Silverman said. (Above right, Fred Armisen as Barack Obama and Poehler as Hillary Clinton on "Saturday Night Live.")
The other project that Daniels and Schur are working on is a direct Office' spinoff that will originate that in the Dunder-Mifflin world. There's no word on casting or on when that spinoff will air. Of the two Daniels-Schur projects, the Poehler project is the network's first priority, the executives said. Though NBC had announced that an Office' spinoff would premiere after the 2009 Super Bowl, that will not happen. Silverman said the network was looking at what to put into that post-Super Bowl slot and will decide later this year what to do. There might be a way to tease the Poehler project or other NBC programs after the game, Silverman said. Backing up a bit: At the start of the session, a bald, bearded guy in glasses hogged the microphone, asking question after question about Jay Leno in a very loud voice. He asked when Jay's final tonight show broadcast would be (the executives said it would air May 29, 2009) and when Conan O'Brien's first Tonight Show' would air (June 1, 2009), among other things. Just when I was thinking the loud guy should give up the mic (one person asking quite a few questions in a row is co...
