NBC Entertainment Co-Chairmen Ben Silverman and Marc Graboff stopped by press tour today to tell us everything is hunky dory at the network and announce a timetable for the "Tonight Show" transition next year. Jay Leno's last show will be Friday, May 29; Conan O'Brien will take over on Monday, June 1. The semi-highlight of the session was when an obnoxious, bald reporter in the back of the room started harassing the execs about Leno's impending departure and other topics. It was, of course, Leno himself in a prosthetic bald pate and beard, replicating Jimmy Kimmel's appearance at the ABC executive session last week. Kimmel haranged his bosses about what would happen to his show if Leno joins ABC; Leno's appearance was clearly intended to counteract the resulting publicity.
Silverman and Graboff emphasized that they are still hoping to keep Leno on NBC in some capacity. The feeling of the room: Right. That'll happen. Plus Leno wasn't all that funny, except when he checked to confirm that NBC has to pay him through the end of 2009.
O'Brien, by the way, will be leaving his "Late Night" chair sometime in the winter, and reruns will air for a while. New "Late Night" host Jimmy Fallon will do an abbreviated version of the show online only at first, then burst onto the broadcast airwaves in March or April.
