Was Nigel too hard on Nathan - or was it well-deserved?
-
Posted 1 week ago by DJCaliboii79It was well deserved and Nigel is absolutely correct in what he said to him and about him. This is the only part of these types of shows I hate (having america pick a winner) but atleast it's not a show with a huge title in the title of the show like "American IDIOL." This is Americas "favorite" dancer so I can deal with america voting on that level.
But the problem still remains all these little girls are voting for him because of how he looks and mixed with lil miss sunshine of cuteness Mollie they are a force (not by dancing) but by cuteness.
It was well deserved. -
From another forum topic:
I really don't think Nathan was bad mouthing Nigel. I think he was acting his age. Inappropriate - yes, but he didn't know any better and during the results show, every shot you see of him after the drubbing Nigel gave him Nathan had his head down and he looked like he got the message. At least we hope he did. Give the kid a break. -

I agree - he wasn't necessarily bad mouthing him, but he did make himself look like an immature little ass. I think he needed a dose of what Nigel gave him - it's a hard lesson to learn on National TV, but I think it will make him a better person for it. -

I think Nathan has a huge head, considering all the pimping he got last season and the automatic ticket for this season. you can just tell by the way he acts that he thinks he is amazing. So I felt like his comment was completely in his character and Nigel was absolutely right with his smackdown. -

Completely well deserved on Nathan; however, I believe COMPLETED UNDESERVED on Karen.
Nigel gave Karen the "ole Danny/Will" trick..not only do they point out her marriage failed, but how she's partners with a married man and that "tweens won't vote due to being put off by her sensuality"...that's like the mark of death and I doubt I could find a tween who actually understood what Nigel meant by that statement.
Gabe? Are u around? -

As an adult I don't understand what Nigel was saying to Karen. She kind of has no personality, but is an amazing salsa dancer which requires her to dance provocatively. I don't see her being over the top at all with anything -
Posted 4 days ago by musicman0909Anyone else feel like it's not that big a deal? I mean, every season Nigel rags on someone. Hell, he ragged on Russell the first couple episodes and then suddenly he's calling him the star of the season. Difference? He danced an african jazz routine vs. ballroom. Nigel does that to try and inspire and motivate the dancers. He doesn't care about the audience, he wants the dancers to grow. And he makes that known week in and week out.
Also, I'm not convinced. Nathan will be Nathan, just like Danny was Danny. In the end, Nathan is there to put on a show. He's gonna stay all cute and bubbly and immature because the tweeny bop girls will eat it up. He's going to sell tickets for the tour and drive traffic to websites, etc. He became the face of SYTYCD season 6 in season 5.
I personally think Karen won't stay around too much longer. Her sensuality borders on cockiness and whatever the female version of machismo is. While it works kind of for hip hop, and definitely for any latin ballroom, it won't for the softer styles. I'm over her overt sexiness. I get it. You're hispanic. You're sexy. Get over yourself.
She's like that girl in High School that tried to be all slutty and stuff for attention, but then never had any "experience." Just a tease. She needs to be more layered in her emotions.
Did I take that too far? -

I stole this quote: "I'm over her overt sexiness. I get it. You're hispanic. You're sexy. Get over yourself." and sent it to my latina friend. I hope you don't mind. She was talking about how sexy she was and it was VERY fitting. lol -

musicman: I think what Nigel says DOES play a big factor = it can influence votes, whether intentional or unintentional.
For example, Danny Tidwell, season 3. Travis Wall's bro and a brilliant dancer. Nigel and Mary kept fawning over him, saying anyone who doesn't pick up the phone and vote "must be blind, doesn't know real talent, etc etc." Danny lost to Sabra, who hardly has been seen since the travesty.
Season 4- WILL WILL WILL. By this seaosn most of us realized that the judges (really nigel, mia, and mary) coudl affect voting by the panel critiques. Ofen the dancer the judges PUSH on the public are the ones the public doesn't support in response to the judges.
Season 5- Evan.Didn't.Deserve.Finals Nuff said.
The judges have clout with the voters, especially the tweeners. Every season without fail, Nigel always oversteps his producers boundaries (seems like a conflict of interest to me IMO, always thought a show producer who molds the Top 20 into "who's prettier").
With that said, Mollle and Nathan getting thru in the 1st voting week wiht a crappy routine was enough to make Nigel pissed off. He realizes that the season's dancers are not of the same caliber as last season and that since it is FALL, more tweeners are sitting at home during the school year and able to call versus the tweeners who would be out playing and at the mall if this was a regular summer season.
So is Karen caliente...yes she is! (omg that sounded like Mary). That chick can look sexy just standing still, never mind walking or dancing. The tween girls, while mid-puberty, will probably be unable to relate to Karen based on the fact she is older, Lantina, recently separated, and is dancing with a butterface-sexy married man. Thus Nigel was telling Karen she should work on turning it down a bit, because not every number will work if she is "sexy." I got what Nigel was trying to say and I think he was trying to help Karen stay in IMO
And Nathan, unlike Evan, was too young to understand that Nigel had a valid point- BUT if Nigel continues to brag about how they mold the Top 20, he shoul have figured out that Nathan was playing up to the girls for votes...after all, doesn't Nigel always say "this is for America's FAVE dancer, not the best dancer?" I think Nigel set himself up to see Molle & Nathan make it a few more weeks. -
Great posts!!!
The bottom line is this: If Nigel wants to drive tickets for the tour he better keep Nathan. Hopefully in doing so he won't break him. Did you notice they spent almost 15 minutes criticizing (oops - critiquing) Molly & Nathan. A little overkill if you ask me.
Karen's choice of dances the past two weeks will not keep her in the show. Sexy or not, I think she's a great dancer. In fact, I don't think any of the dancers in the top 14 are bad - they're all good. But get them out of their comfort zone and that's where you separate the children from the adults.
Cheers to all of them - it must be so difficult to do what they do. Learn a dance in a week, perform it and then get criticized in front of millions of people. Okay - critiqued. -

Very true about the ticket sales. I went to Season 4s Live Tour (I couldn't wait to see Will, Twitch, Katee, Chelsie, etc. in person) and the entire arena was filled with little twats screaming for Gev the entire time. GEV! I couldn't believe it. I'm way too old to think he was even remotely attractive, but hey, there wasn't many of us 30 and ups in the audience so I see why Nigel needs the little pansy boys like Gev for ticket sales. -
Posted 3 days ago by musicman0909haha all good OhNo :) (for the record, I'm Cuban. So, I can rag all I want on the Hispanics. It annoys me when Hispanic women are too sexual, it takes away from their confidence, which is the sexiest thing about them, and makes it look like a front.)
And Toni - Fair enough. Nigel bragging that mold the top 20 is interesting. Though I don't think Nathan is mature enough nor smart enough to know what he was doing. He was just being an 18 year old (a very immature 18 year old). I think all the time spent on them, etc., just shows that the judges are trying to keep them on for the tour.
Also - those kids have NO rhythm out of their comfort zone. They look supremely awkward. -

musicman - was totally thinking of you last night as a repeatedly watched M&N and their critque. I think Nigel was very smart to clarify his postion last night, even tho he spent another 15 minutes on these two. I still agree with Nigel and I appreciate seeing the two dance with a little more maturity - cuz last night Mollie ripped it! I have watched tha dance at least 10 times and I never look at Nathan. Hands down, last night had the better performances of the season thus far
Also, my mother tries to get me to see the tour every year and every year I refuse. I've seen enouogh clips on youtube to know the music is exceptional loud, the tweeners are a screaming, and you can hardly see the dances. -
Well, now that we know who the top 12 are - we know the tour right? The top 10 are officially touring, but the past few seasons they've taken the top 12 because they need the extra 2 dancers for swing/back-ups. So that's good news for everyone, right?

What are your guys thoughts on last nights eliminations? -
Posted 1 day ago by TonIsntGayShesBILIARIOUS
I thought Kevin was overdue but Channing should have stayed over Karen. I was watching it with my girl and said to her "yanno I hate when the eliminated contestants don't break down crying, cuz then I know how much they wanted it." Then I noticed Channing always has the same smile no matter what. Then I realized Channing really didn't have a great "persona" and we don't really know her, so I can see why she was eliminated, as Nigel is right, ppl won't vote for someone they dont know.
However, Channing routine AND solo kicked Karen's ass. I thought that Karen was as strong of a dancer as Channing, yet we "know" Karen more so we're stuck with her for another week. NOW we got Karen dancing with Viktor - this is make or break for Karen. If they pull a ballroom, Karen is GOLDEN. -
Posted 1 day ago by OhNos_Diggin_Jayonce
Argh, Viktor is my LEAST favorite boy. Same with Channing. I wanted both of them to go... unless America would wake up and get rid of the wonder tweenie twins. -
Posted 1 day ago by TonIsntGayShesBILIARIOUS
Mollie and Ashleigh have converted me this week. I cannot believe I just admitted that, but they did. Viktor has to cold, Russian-liek ballroom vibe to him, no? -
Posted 1 day ago by JoyGiveItOnUpToHomelessville
Toni - agree that Channing should've stayed over Karen. Her solo ("dancing for your life" which is supposed to save you, no?) was MUCH better than Karen's who just basically stood around, posed, looked sexy. Sorry but she sucked with her solo. -
Posted 1 day ago by JoyGiveItOnUpToHomelessville
Toni - I should've read everything first - hah! Well *I* think Channing should've stayed over Karen, mainly due to her solo but I've liked her over all better than Karen anyway.
I really liked Mollee and Nathan this week also.
Ashleigh is on my team and I think she's kicking ass. -
Posted 1 day ago by TonIsntGayShesBILIARIOUS
lmao Joy I re-read half the stuff I typed around here today today and its a big ole clusterfuk.
I personally have liked Karen more than Channing, personality wise. I have always thought Channing was the stronger dancer, but she had the personality of stepford wife. This week's routine made me full on convert for Channing 100%.
per Nigel, Karen being a ballroom dancer puts her at a disadvantage during her solo - however, we have all seen awesome ballroom solos courtesy of Anya, Pasha, Dmitry, and Heidi even Swan for goodness sake- so we know its possible. Karen's solo sucked more ass that Andy, it was insincere, thrown together, and more sexuality than dancing IMO. Channing's solo was 300% stronger than Karen's, in addition to Channing being awesome in her piece.
So I agree with you Joy in that Channing should have stayed over Karen. Hands down. And I would keep Viktor over Nathan in a heart beat!
And check this out. Mary even agrees with my ass:
"So how bad was Karen? When we talked to judge Mary Murphy afterward, she was still reeling in reaction: "Karen's solo was horrid. I'm a ballroom dancer, and she's a ballroom dancer, and after that I shook my head and said, 'I'm not sure what she was doing just now! I didn't even recognize what that was.'
Nonetheless, the judges raved backstage about Karen's previous star work, especially in her hip-hop with Kevin, and they decided to saved her. (Does anyone else suspect that last season's lack of a breakout personality has led the judges to perhaps slightly overemphasize star quality this season? Perhaps the judges' "producer" tendencies are showing a bit more than is strictly smart?)" -

LMAO - Stepford Wife!!! But yeah I do think she's the better dancer, even if she doesn't have the brightest personality. -
Posted 1 day ago by JoyGiveItOnUpToHomelessville
I'm glad to see Mary agrees with us :) -
